How to Send an Audio Message in iOS 8

Sometimes typing and emoticons just don’t quite cut it (and a phone call is wayyyy too much commitment, let’s be real) so what are you to do? Well, in iOS 8, you have a third option –audio messages. Now, next to the text field when typing to someone else with iMessage enabled, you can tap a little microphone icon to record a short audio message and have it sent to them just like a picture message.
Ok, so it may not be that revolutionary, but it sure beats recording a voice note and then sending that. I’m all for reducing the number of taps I need to do anything. With it now being so easy, I’m sure we’ll see a lot more people using it, whether it’s appropriate or not (I can only imagine what my friends are going to be sending me sounds of).
Want to try it out yourself? Well, if you’re on iOS 8, here’s how:
1. Tap on Messages.

2. Tap on the conversation you want to send the audio message through.

3. Tap and hold on the microphone key on the right side of the text field and start chatting away. You need to continue holding it by the way to continue to record.

4. Once you’ve said all you need to say, let go of the microphone icon and tap the arrow icon to send it along (you can also tap the X icon to delete it, or tap the play icon to listen to a preview of it).

And wait for their confused response (since it seems most people have no clue you can do this).
Keep in mind that it will only work if you BOTH have iOS 8 it seems.

How to Setup Touch ID on the iPhone 5S

It seems that some people are having a bit of an issue with the Touch ID (aka fingerprint scanner) on the iPhone 5S. Even though they go through the entire process of adding a fingerprint and it says successful, when they try andunlock their phone with that finger it tells them that their finger isn’t their finger. People have taken to the Apple forums to voice their frustration and it made me think that there should probably be a video tutorial on how to setup your fingerprint for the best possible chance of it being identified. So here goes my attempt at just that.

I. Remove Your Old Fingerprints

  1. Tap Settings.
  2. Tap General.
  3. Tap Passcode & Fingerprint.
  4. Enter your PIN code/password (in prompted).
  5. Tap Fingerprints.
  6. Tap Edit at the top right.
  7. Tap the red minus next to one of your current Fingers below, then tap delete.
  8. Repeat step 7 until all of the fingerprints are gone.

II. Add the First New Fingerprint

  1. Tap Add a fingerprint.
  2. Put the majority of your dominant hand thumb on the home button and make sure to cover the entire home button with your finger. Keep it there until it scans.
  3. Now for the next few scans, think of your finger print in four quadrants (top left, top right, bottom left, and bottom right). Move it slightly to the right and down and press down. Make sure to, again, cover the entire home button with you finger, even adjust the position if necessary to allow for this.
  4. Once it has that, move the finger down (we just got the top left, now we’re getting the bottom left). Again, make sure to cover the entire home button with your finger when you do this.
  5. After it scans that quadrant, move the finger over to the left and down (to get the top right quadrant). Again, make sure to cover the entire home button with your finger when you do this.
  6. Once it has that, move the finger down (we just got the top right, now we’re getting the bottom right). Again, make sure to cover the entire home button with your finger when you do this.
  7. Now that we have those quadrants, do the top center of your finger by putting it center on the home button but slightly down. Again, make sure to cover the entire home button with your finger when you do this.
  8. Now do the bottom center by placing your finger center on the button but slightly higher than the first scan. Again, make sure to cover the entire home button with your finger when you do this.
  9. Finally, put your finger center on the home button just as you did in the first scan. After that you should be prompted to change your grip (if not, continue to put your finger centered on the button until it is done scanning and asks you to adjust your grip). Again, make sure to cover the entire home button with your finger when you do this.

III. Adjust Your Grip

Whew, tough, I know, but trust me it’ll make it more accurate. Now, though we need to adjust our grip and make this work no matter what angle we grab our phone at. It basically now wants all of the edges of our finger so we’re going to again think of the edges of our finger in quadrants; top, left, right, and bottom. You excited, yet? Here goes.
  1. Rotate your finger at a full 45 degree angle (see video) onto it’s right side and scan it.
  2. Rotate your finger onto it’s left side in the same manner and scan it.
  3. Position your finger so the top/tip is on the scanner and scan it.
  4. Position it now with the lower portion (below what we scanned in section II above) and scan it.
  5. Repeat steps 1 – 4 until it is done scanning (if it doesn’t finish after all 8 scans, just keep randomly positioning your finger on any edge until it does finish).
  6. Once done, success! You have a finger saved!

IV. Repeat to Scan All the Fingers You Plan to Use

  1. Repeat sections II and III above until you have scanned all the fingers you think you’ll use. I’d highly suggest at least both thumbs and index fingers and possible even your pinkies (trust me when you are eating a messy burger and your need to check something pronto, you’ll thank me for the pinkie idea).

Rooting

Rooting is the process of gaining administrative rights on an iOS device (iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, etc.). By rooting your device and flashing a custom recovery, you are then able to install custom ROMs (new versions of the Operating System) to allow you to:
  • Increase performance & battery life
  • Add tons of customization options
  • Add new features that would not normally be possible
  • Upgrade to newer versions of Android
  • Change/remove the custom UI skin your manufacturer installed
  • Remove bloatware your manufacturer installed
Interested? Here’s how it works.

I. Root Your Android Device

Rooting an Android device is specific to that device. Use the dropdown below to choose your device and see if we have the “How to Root” procedure for your specific device. After using the tutorial to gain root access, you’ll be able to:
  • Remove bloatware
  • Use root required apps from the Play Store
Head to our How To’s section, choose your device, and check the box for Rooting How To’s.
Then find the “How To Root” for your device (if we have it) and follow the tutorial.


To really gain the most from your device though, you should then flash a custom recovery and custom ROM.

II. Flash a Custom Recovery Image

With most rooting procedures, you usually will automatically flash a custom recovery while gaining root access. So you most likely already flashed it if you did our how to root procedure for your device. After using the tutorial to flash a custom recovery, you’ll be able to:
  • Make full backups of your entire device
  • Flash custom and/or newer versions of Android
  • Overclock or undervolt your device for better performance/battery life
Once you have root access and a custom recovery, the most popular thing to do is to flash a Custom ROM.

III. Flash a Custom ROM

A custom ROM is a custom version of the device’s operating system that has been packaged as a .zip file that you can flash onto your device using a custom recovery.
1. Select a ROM from our ROM repository here and save it to your computer’s desktop.


2. Boot into recovery mode (you should have learned how to do this for your particular device during the flashing of the custom recovery procedure).
3. Select Backup in recovery and perform a backup (just in case).
4. Select Wipe in recovery.
5. Select Flash Zip in recovery and choose the ROM’s .zip file and allow it to flash.
6. Select reboot system now and you are running the new ROM.
You can do this over and over until you find a ROM you like.

IV. Issues & Unrooting

If you ever want to unroot your device for warranty purposes or to start over, you usually can.
Head to our How To’s section, choose your device, and find the “How To Unroot” for your device (if we have it) and follow the tutorial.

Flash a Custom ROM on the Samsung Galaxy S5 (T-Mobile)
A custom ROM is a custom version of Android for your device. After you have rooted your device and flashed a custom recovery on it, you can then use the recovery to flash a custom ROM. Thanks to a sizeable community ofdevelopers, there are a lot of these third-party ROMs to choose from (depending on the device) and each one is unique. Developers usually give you the latest version of Android in their ROM, their own custom themes, options, and a ton of other customization options and enhancements.
In this procedure, we’ll show you how to flash a custom ROM on your Samsung Galaxy S5 (T-Mobile).
After flashing a custom ROM on Samsung Galaxy S5 (T-Mobile), you’ll be able to:
  • Flash newer versions of Android that the manufacturer hasn’t provided yet.
  • Utilize different UI skins or stock Android(HTC’s Sense UI, Samsung’s TouchWiz UI, LG Optimus UI).
  • Increase performance
  • Increase battery life
  • More customization options than stock ROMs
Interested? Here’s how to flash a custom ROM on your Samsung Galaxy S5 (T-Mobile):

I. Before You Begin

1. You must be rooted to do this tutorial. Head to our Rooting How To’s section, find your device, and do the How to Root tutorial listed for it there then return to this tutorial to continue.
2. You must also have a custom recovery flashed on your device before doing this tutorial. Head to our Rooting How To’s section, find your device, and do the How to Flash a Custom Recovery tutorial listed for it there then return to this tutorial to continue.

II. Choose a Custom ROM to Flash

1. Head to our ROM repository and choose your device.
2. Choose a ROM of your liking.
3. Click the download link in the ROM post to be taken to the developer’s page for that ROM.
4. Search through the developer’s page for the download link for the latest version of that ROM (usually located in the first post in a forum or under Downloads).
5. Save the ROM to your desktop of your computer.

III. Flash the Custom ROM on your Samsung Galaxy S5 (T-Mobile)

1. Connect your device to your PC using the USB cable.
2. Copy the Custom ROM .zip file from your desktop over to the root of your SD card.
3. Once it’s been copied, disconnect your device from your PC.
4. Turn OFF your device.
5. Turn it back on by holding down Volume Up, Home, and Power buttons together.
6. Your device should reboot into recovery mode.
The recovery mode uses Volume buttons for navigation and Power button for making a selection.
7. Select Backup and Restore.
8. Select Backup.
9. Select Yes when prompted and let it backup your device.
10. Once done, select Back and you’ll be back to main menu.
11. Select Wipe data/factory reset.
12. Select Yes when prompted and let it wipe data on your device.
13. Once done, head back to main menu by selecting Back.
14. Select install zip from sdcard followed by choose zip from sdcard.
15. Navigate to the root of your SD card and choose the Custom ROM .zip you copied earlier to be flashed on your device.
16. Select Yes when prompted if you really want to flash the selected .zip file.
17. It’ll begin flashing the file on your device.
18. Once the file’s been flashed, reboot your device by selecting reboot system now.
19. You’re all done!

IV. Flash Another Custom ROM (Optional)

1. After your have a custom ROM on your device, you can always repeat this process to flash another one and try out different ones until you find one that suits your needs.
By the way, don’t be scared, you can always put your device back to stock by heading to our Rooting How To’s section, finding your device, and doing the How to Unroot tutorial listed for it there.
